History Taking Introduction

Introduction

There will undoubtedly be a history taking station in the MRCS ENT OSCE and the emphasis will be on communication skills rather than coming to a diagnosis. Although stations can vary, the examiner will not usually ask you for a differential diagnosis or management plan at the end of the interaction. You will simply finish the consultation with the patient. Sometimes a short history may be integrated with a short examination (e.g. epistaxis).

Examples

A 22-year-old lady presents with dizziness. Please take a clinical history. You are not expected to conduct an examination.

A 67-year-old man presents with epistaxis. Please take a clinical history and perform Anterior Rhinoscopy.
